Springbank Dancers has some of Calgary's most experienced and passionate dance teachers. Every day they bring their creativity, knowledge and love for dance to the studio. Each instructor brings different and exciting elements to their classes, and their goal is to ensure class is enjoyed by each student while providing advanced direction and choreography. Each instructor is chosen for their experience, unique attributes, commitment to the students and studio, and their warm and open personality.

Miss Devon

* Artistic Director, Studio Owner, Dance Educator, ADAPT, AAC

Miss Devon is going into her 12th year as Owner and Director of Springbank Dancers!!! She began Figure Skating at age 5 and became intensely competitive. To increase her strength and poise, she began taking ballet and jazz, which quickly became a new passion for her. Soon after, she started student teaching and expanding her knowledge in various disciplines of dance, attending multiple studios, classes, and work-shops around the city. Miss Devon danced professionally for the Michael Bernard Fitzgerald production for two years, which toured throughout Southern Alberta. She also worked closely with the Production Managers at So You Think You Can Dance Canada auditions in 2008, and choreographed for various fundraisers and events, including "ONE Voice of World Dance" and the Olympic Torch Relay 2010. Miss Devon travels North American to take dance classes and teacher's workshops and is a fully certified ADAPT instructor and has received full certification as an Acrobatic Arts instructor, up to the Advanced level. Miss Devon is driven to always be expanding her knowledge and experiences to pass down to her students.

Miss Devon and husband Carey are now the proud parents of two boys, Zac (4yrs) and Knox (3yrs)! While the boys make "loud" appearances at the studio often, Miss Devon sees the entire studio as an extension of her family and hopes that each student feels the acceptance and care the studio embraces.

Miss Shana

* Assistant Director, Dance Educator, Competition Choreographer

Shana has been dancing and performing since the age of 3. She has been training in Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Ballroom throughout North America. Her extensive training and performing experience has led her to winning numerous awards and scholarships in Canada and Internationally. She has had the privilege to work with the Alberta Ballet, M.A.D.D Rhythms (Chicago based tap company), Essential Elements Hip Hop Crew, Xtreme Dance Conventions,The Flaming Lips, Jubilations Dinner Theatre and has assisted and demonstrated for Choreographers such as Melissa Williams, Nico Archambault, Bradley Rapier, Gustavo Vargas and Jason Young. As well as being a trained dancer, Shana has been classically trained in voice for the past 15 years and has won numerous awards at vocal competitions as well as being a Guest vocalist for various performances in Calgary. Recently she has been seen In Calgary's own "Rocky Horror Show" staring as "Magenta". Shana is so excited for the upcoming season and we are so happy to welcome her back for a second year as Assistant Director!

Miss Katerina

* Dance Educator

Miss Katerina is one of our senior dancers and has been dancing with Springbank Dancers for the past 4 years. She was a competitive figure skater for the majority of her life but fell in love with dance and is enjoying exploring dance opportunities. In the past few years she has danced in Disneyland and California Adventure, taken class at Harbour Dance Center in Vancouver, and attended the Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive in Kelowna B.C. Miss Katerina has always had a passion for concert band and voice and has had the opportunity to perform in regional and provincial honour bands as well as compete in the national band festival in Ottawa, Ontario as a clarinetist. She enjoys theater immensely and loves being a part of her high schools plays as well as their competitive one act play team. While Miss Katerina adores every style of dance she is truly passionate about Ballet and hopes to continue to learn and grow in this discipline for many years to come! After highschool Miss Katerina hopes to pursue a career in pediatric medicine but knowns that wherever her career takes her she will always be around the studio!

Miss Kristen

* Dance Educator, A.I.S.T.D

Miss Kristen has been dancing for 20 years, beginning her training at Crossings Dance. She has attended The Banff Centre Summer Dance Program and was accepted into the Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive in Kelowna, British Columbia. Miss Kristen attended Project Dance in New York City in 2006 and 2008, as well as in Toronto in 2009. In the fall of 2010 Miss Kristen successfully accomplished her R.A.D. Advanced 2 Ballet examination. In 2013 she graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Communications. She has been a member of Corps Bara Dance Theatre in both the youth and professional companies, and is currently rehearsal director for the youth company. Recently she was awarded her Associate with I.S.T.D. and looks forward to attaining her Associate Diploma. We are so excited for Miss Kristen is back this season to challenge our dancers assist in the continuing growth of our reputable ballet program!

MISS MARYN

Miss Maryn

* Dance Educator, Competition Choreographer

Miss Maryn began dancing with Springbank Dancers at the age of 12. With a passion for dance and collaborative art, she recently completed her BFA in Dance from the University of Calgary. Being heavily involved as a performer and choreographer throughout her degree, Miss Maryn has had the opportunity to work with local and international dance artists who have expanded her perception of the art form. Local credits include performances with the Alberta Dance Festival, Peggy Baker Dance Projects, kloetzel&co, W&M Dance Projects, and the Ignite! Festival. In August of 2014, Maryn travelled to Namibia, Africa to participate in a dance internship program with the Ombetja Yehinga Organization; an organization which aims to raise awareness about social issues through the arts. Maryn is constantly working to expand her body of knowledge in contemporary dance, and is so excited to share that with her students!

Miss Sarah

* Dance Educator

Miss Sarah began dancing in Medicine Hat at the age of nine. She quickly fell in love with every style and decided to pursue a career in dance after high school. Sarah recently graduated with a BFA in Dance from the University of Calgary. During her time in University she had the opportunity to work with Melanie Kloetzel, Marie France Forcier, Heather Ware and Melissa Monteros. Sarah is continually working towards improving her teaching techniques through safe dance practice and is currently working towards her Healthy Dancer Certificate.

Miss Tanis

* Dance Educator

Tanis Nicholls was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and began dancing at a very young age. She has trained with renowned instructors and choreographers across Canada and the United States in a variety of disciplines, including the ADAPT and RAD syllabuses. She is accomplished in providing professional and expert instruction in dance technique, choreography, performance skills and dance related education.

Tanis graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Dance/Theatre Performance. She is certified in Dance, Voice and Acting from The Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia. Tanis has performed on stages in both Canada and the United States. Some of her theater credits include, “The Shoji Tabuchi Show,” “The Wonders of Christmas,” “Magic N’ Miracles Canadian Tour,” “Break The Floor,” “New York City Dance Alliance Summer Showcase,” “The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede,” and “The Nutcracker Ballet.” Other credits include the Bollywood movie, I’ve Found Someone” and multiple national commercials and television appearances.

Tanis was a member of the Canadian National Tap Team, competing in Berlin, Germany at the World Tap Championship, taking home a silver medal. Her choreography has been seen on stages across the southern United States and Western Canada, as well as the Heart and Hand Charity Banquet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Tanis is the Owner and Director of Extreme Dance Challenge, a Calgary based dance competition and convention.

Tanis lived in the United States for ten years and during this time she performed professionally and taught/choreographed at studios in Missouri and Oklahoma. Tanis has been teaching youth for over twelve years. She also enjoys adjudicating at dance competitions and festivals, as well as teaching master classes. Tanis finds this to be a great opportunity to share her positive and constructive feedback to help improve dancers’ technique, performance abilities and overall love for dance.

Currently residing in Calgary, Tanis has taught and choreographed for local studios, the Edge School for Athletes, The Young Canadians School of Performing Arts and the Calgary Stampede Showband. Tanis is excited to work with the Springbank Dancers this season and share her passion, knowledge, technical ability and love for dance. MissTanis@SpringbankDancers.com
